The challenges to Bible translation projects as they near the finish line
“Yes, we definitely need and want prayer…thanks so much for your role in helping us finish strong.” —Brenda, a Bible translator in Asia.
“So let’s not get tired of doing what is good. At just the right time we will reap a harvest of blessing if we don’t give up” (Galatians 6:9, NLT).
Scripture translation is a demanding task and needs constant prayer support from start to finish. Translators Amos and Heather in Africa agree and add, “…especially as we are in the last stages of the work, which many translators have found to be a difficult time. It is inevitable that the enemy will try to prevent and destroy the work that would make the Scriptures accessible to another people group.”
- Praise God who is advancing His kingdom, no matter what happens during the translation process, including the final stages that often see the most challenges.
- Pray that translators will keep their focus on Christ when they are stretched and experience things that detain them from getting their part of the work done.
- Pray that they will remain steadfast in their trust of Him for guidance and wisdom each day to accomplish that which in His sovereignty He allows.
- Give thanks to God our Father who promises that He, who began the good work within us, will continue His work until it is finally finished on the day when Christ Jesus returns (see Philippians 1:6).
*Pray for Scripture translations that are within three years of completion in The Finish Line, an annual prayer publication.
