The Wycliffe USA Board of Directors

To maintain accountability, Wycliffe USA elects a board of directors that consists of not only Wycliffe personnel, but also pastors, business people, educational leaders and others who have been involved in the work of Bible translation.

Those selected to serve on the board must demonstrate Christian character and enthusiastically support the work of Bible translation. Using their ability to think strategically and work creatively, the board sets the direction for Wycliffe USA. The president of Wycliffe USA, Bob Creson, working with the Senior Leadership Team, is responsible for meeting these goals.

Name:

Ruth Cowan

Title:  Board Member
Administrative Assistant: Director’s Office (SIL Peru)

Ruth Cowan was born into Wycliffe missions. The daughter of George and Florence Cowan, translators in Mexico, Cowan grew up in Mexico, England, the United States, and Canada. In 1978, Cowan joined Wycliffe and began to serve in various roles.

Cowan presently lives in Lima, Peru, and works as the secretary/administrative assistant in the regional director’s office for SIL Peru. In the past, she served as the secretary in the personnel office for Wycliffe UK, and as the secretary to various administrators at Wycliffe USA headquarters. She also worked as a radio scriptwriter. In Peru, she has served on the SIL Peru branch executive committee for 14 years.

After growing up overseas, Cowan attended Wheaton College and obtained a bachelor of arts in literature. Cowan also holds a graduate certificate from Multnomah School of the Bible. She also trained in linguistics at SIL for two summers.

As a ministry, Cowan has led Bible studies while living in Irvine, California, and participates in a Spanish Bible study in Lima, Peru.
