Dr. Chris Seiple uses his deep understanding of security, human rights, and religious issues to serve Wycliffe USA on the board. As president of the Institute for Global Engagement, Seiple works to promote sustainable environments for religious freedom worldwide. He first gained experience in international affairs while serving as an infantry officer in the United States Marine Corps, where he was assigned in the 1990s to the Strategic Initiatives Group.
Seiple is a Senior Fellow at the Foreign Policy Research Institute (Philadelphia), a member at the Council on Foreign Relations (New York), and a member of the International Institute for Strategic Studies (London). He is the founder of IGE's publication, The Review of Faith and International Affairs. His book, The U.S. Military/NGO Relationship in Humanitarian Interventions, is an influential work in the field. A highly sought-after speaker, Seiple has lectured on religion and realpolitik in Doha, Peshawar, Bannu, Moscow, Vladikavkaz, Hanoi, Urumchi, Oslo, and Beijing.
As an Earhart Fellow, Seiple earned his Ph.D from The Fletcher School of Law and Diplomacy at Tufts University. He also holds a bachelor’s degree from Stanford University in international relations, and a master’s in national security affairs from the Naval Postgraduate School.
Seiple lives in Virginia with his wife, Alissa, and sons, Liam and Hanan.
