Larry Jones has been fascinated with language for many years. He began studying classical Greek in college and graduated with a B.A. in Greek in 1976. He went on to earn both a master’s and a doctoral degree in linguistics.
Jones joined Wycliffe in 1976. Two years later he served as a consultant for SIL at a workshop in Ixmiquilpan, Mexico. In 1980 Jones and his wife Linda began service with SIL in Indonesia. They began research and translation work with the Indonesian Yawa language and continued this work for 8 years. During that same period, Jones served as a consultant in linguistics and translation for an SIL program with CenderawasihUniversity in Indonesia.
In 1992, Jones began serving as country director for SIL’s work in Indonesia. Six years later he transitioned into the role of SIL Asia Area Director. He now serves as the Senior Vice President of Field Programs for The Seed Company.
