A Source of Power

A open BibleIn Central Africa, there is a belief that Pygmies have magical powers. Often, other Africans will try to make friends with Pygmies so that they get those powers, which will allow them to get revenge on those who have done them wrong.

On a trip to the capital city of Bangui, Barthélemy, one of the Yaka [a Pygmy language] translators, was approached by a man asking him for a fetish to help him control his wife, whom he had discovered committing adultery.

In response, Barthélemy asked the man to step aside a moment. Once out of sight of others, Barthélemy told him that he did, indeed, have a source of power which he could give him that very moment.

Imagine the man’s surprise to learn that the source of power this Pygmy was talking about was Jesus Christ! He knelt down, and Barthélemy prayed on the spot for him and his wife.
