Jungle Jump off sign Escape from the jungle of routine living.

Come to Jungle Jump Off and get a jump-start introduction to the world of missions.

Experience a taste of the mission field

small house in the woodsNo time or funds for an overseas missionary trip? No problem! Venture to the woodlands near Dixon, Illinois (100 miles west of Chicago), to a program called Jungle Jump Off. You and your junior high, high school or college age group can spend a week in a simulated remote village setting right here in the U.S. Experience a taste of overseas living and missionary service for a minimal investment of time and money. Check out our sample schedule for the week.

Expand your comfort zone

Your group will unite as they “skywalk” on the high-ropes course. They will Students participating in ropes coursedine as never before on food prepared on mud stoves, and even better, underground! Your teens’ minds will be stretched as they hear words spoken from a new language. They’ll work together to accomplish tasks that they usually take for granted. And guess what, they’ll love it, and they’ll never be the same again!

After a day blending challenges and fun, sleep will be sweet on a wooden floor in a champa (house built on stilts), or in a hammock strung between trees in a heavily wooded area at the Jungle Jump Off site.

While at Jungle Jump Off, you’ll have a chance to give back to the community through special projects. Everyone should come prepared for rugged outdoor work that will flex those muscles, but you’ll also have time to enjoy volleyball, basketball or swimming.

Explode some myths about missions

Students cooking over a fireThe Wycliffe Illinois Jungle Jump Off program includes exciting missionary videos and cross-cultural demonstrations. Around an evening campfire, Wycliffe missionaries will share their overseas experiences. A canoe trip to a “remote village” will put into practice linguistic principles learned during the week. A challenging ropes course will enhance your team-building skills. These experiences will help explode some myths about missions and expose your group to the realities of missionary life.

Explore possibilities

Group devotions, your own Bible study, or personal quiet time will have special meaning when held outdoors in the beauty of God’s nature. As you take time to listen, you may find God cutting a trail for your future.

Perhaps you’ll begin exploring possibilities for a career as a Bible translator or support worker. You may find God leading you to contribute to a special Wycliffe project or get involved in supporting missions at your church. At the very least, your week at Jungle Jump Off will help you know how to pray more effectively for missionaries. It will expand your view of the world of missions and help you begin to examine what your part in it might be.
