Interested in learning more about being a Bible translator? Get a Taste Of Translation And Linguistics (TOTAL). This five-day course presents introductory classes on the range of technical disciplines involved in linguistics and Bible translation. It includes field reports, videos and personal testimonies. Learn in a relaxed, informal setting with experienced translators from a variety of countries and language projects.

Devotions, prayer time and group living build meaningful relationships between staff and students. Housing and meals are provided. Cost is $200; scholarships may be available. The number of students accepted varies slightly between locations, but in general, class sizes are 20-30 people.

Classes include phonetics, phonology, grammar, language learning, and translation principles. Other related subjects are touched on such as language survey, literacy, scripture use, and technology in missions, as well as the host of other skill sets needed to get the Bible translation task done.

Each evening includes a delicious ethnic dinner, reports of translation work in progress and personal sharing, possibly an exciting mission video, hang-out time and help with homework, if needed.
