Leading the Children

"At last, someone in the community is concerned about the children. No one has ever done this before," observed one of the local authorities from a remote Quechua community in the state of Cusco. In most Quechua communities attending church is an adult activity, done while the children take the animals out to pasture.

However, with the help of Children's Ministry Workshops Quechua churches are beginning to assume the responsibility of teaching children biblical truths in a way that affects their lives. Children's classes in Cusco are being held at 6:00 a.m. so the children can attend before they take the animals out.

Children's Ministry Workshops are just one of the ways the South Peru Scripture Advance is encouraging the use of the Cusco Quechua Bible that was completed in 1988. These workshops are attended by people like Victor, who was sent by his church.

One morning during devotions, this young man realized his need to accept Christ into his life. Now Victor is one of the best teachers in his community. Training others to work with children has become his passion; he walks up to five hours to visit churches and train other young people.
