What is GET Global?
Every year GET Global sends high school and college students from around the world to Go Experience Translation. The teams are made up of 8-10 students, ages 15-23, who are excited about getting involved in the work God is doing around the world.
During a typical GET Global trip, a team spends 2-3 weeks among a minority language group where Bible translation is in progress. You and your team will be given the opportunity to experience translation work firsthand in at least three ways.
Where do we Go?
What do we Do?
- LANGUAGE LEARNING: TIME WITH A LOCAL LANGUAGE WORKER
GET Global trips mirror the early field experiences of a translator. During the orientation process, you’ll be equipped with basic linguistic skills that will help you to grasp the local "heart language."
Similar to a translator, you’ll develop your language skills by sitting at the feet of a local language worker. After only a few hours, you will come away with a deeper understanding of why translation work can be so challenging, yet so rewarding.
- CROSS-CULTURAL INTERACTION: THE VILLAGE STAY
You’ll then be taken out of your comfort zone and will put your language learning and survival skills to the test. Team members will be paired up and placed in a village home for 3-5 days.
During this time you’ll be immersed in the local culture and language. You might learn how local crafts are made, or you could find yourself playing games with children. You’ll eat foods that you’ve never tried before. And you’ll come away a richer person as a result!
- COMMUNITY DEVELOPMENT: THE SERVICE PROJECT
As a rewarding cap to your GET Global trip, a service project will say, “Thank you,” to the missionaries and the village for allowing your team to spend time there.
GET Global consults with the local community and missionaries to determine what project would be most appropriate and appreciated. Service projects can be anything from construction, to computer or literacy work, to planning an event for children.
