From hard drives to saved lives... your computer skills can help bring the Bible to those people who don't have the Word of God in their own language.

In more than 60 countries, the Wycliffe team uses a variety of computer software and systems to tackle such diverse tasks as information management, office automation, specialized linguistic programs, worldwide electronic mail... the list is endless!

So are the ways your God-given talents make a difference. Computer specialists are needed everywhere! Get ready to develop new programs, design systems manuals, troubleshoot hardware and train Wycliffe workers and nationals in the use of computers and software.

Wycliffe experts wield the latest technologies as they rise to the challenges of providing computer services in various areas.

Language

Developing language analysis applications including specialty resources such as:Working on a computer

  • Non-Roman Script Initiative -using computers for non-Roman languages.
  • Acoustic Speech Analysis - a set of programs assisting linguists in doing phonetic and phonological analysis of speech.
  • CARLA - a program allowing adaptation of translations to related languages.
  • Lingualinks - knowledge support system for Bible translation and linguistics, including electronic field manuals.
  • Field Works - a specific suite of data and applications designed to support SIL language project work. Initial work on these applications has recently begun.
  • Shoebox - a dictionary-oriented database management program for the field linguist.

Publishing

Publishing Scriptures and literacy materials, scientific articles and public relations literature using such programs as Corel/Ventura, Adobe Photoshop, Fractal Painter, Microsoft Word and in house software. We're using TrueType GX and other cutting edge technology to display and print Roman as well as non-Roman scripts on Windows and Macintosh platforms.

Finance & Personnel

Maintaining financial integrity with our support team through accounting and personnel information management.

Electronic Communication

Working on a computerOur U.S. communication network centers are Dallas, TX; Orlando, FL and Waxhaw, NC. They currently provide email access for more than 6,000 Wycliffe missionaries around the world and the number grows every day. The applications and communications provided through this network are key to our success in Bible translation and literacy by cutting communication time from weeks and months to hours.

Computer & Communications Services

We provide worldwide purchasing and technical support through Computer & Communications Services (CCS) at JAARS in Waxhaw, NC. CCS offers orientation to computer skilled members and training for other members. It supports and revises computer programs that have been developed in our organizations.

Internships

Internship opportunities are available at JAARS as well as at our centers in Dallas, TX and Orlando, FL.
