Wycliffe Needs Engineers, Programmers and Other Telecommunications Specialists!
Making Communication Possible
Good communication tools are critical to the safety and efficiency of Bible translation work. Telecommunications specialists are dedicated to keeping Wycliffe’s three main communication tools operational and up-to-date:
- Radio
- Email
- Satellite Phones
Radio involves both ground and aviation communication and is particularly essential for those working in remote locations where phone and email communication is unreliable, if available at all.
Wycliffe’s email network is complex, with links between at least sixty countries, to date. This system is key to our success and is involved in nearly every aspect of our work.
Satellite phones are very important communication tools for teams on the move and for those working in locations where other forms of communication are unavailable. Many language workers who have satellite phones use them for email. While they are relatively slow for data, they are indispensable when other access to email is unavailable.
