Are you ready to serve?
What do we mean by “ready”? Doesn’t someone just need to be passionate about missions and be willing to go? Not necessarily. We want everyone to be successful, and we’ve identified a number of issues that can hinder someone’s ability to serve.
If you are interested in taking the first step in pursuing membership with Wycliffe, there are certain issues of a very personal nature that will need to be discussed.*
We do not want to send someone into the thick of a spiritual battle ill-prepared, wounded or not fully armored. No commander would want to send his soldiers into a battle zone without being fully certain that they are all strong, fit and emotionally ready for what they might encounter. There is a very real war out there, and there are casualties of these battles. We need to make sure that everyone we send out can handle the heat of battle. We need to be sure that our soldiers have stripped off “every weight that slows us down, especially the sin that so easily hinders our progress” (Heb. 12:1, NLT).
Areas that need to be discussed are:
Since we do not do the spiritual training ourselves, but rely on each person getting their training/mentoring in their home churches, we need to check the quality of the training and the caliber of the recruits that come to us answering God’s call. We also want to assist you in thinking through and dealing with issues that might hold you back. There are great resources available to you! You'll find a compilation of mission issues resources at the Caleb Project website.
We want everyone to be successful in service and to live a victorious life as they obey Him and work to expand His Kingdom here on earth! If you have a question about any of these issues, let's talk about it.
* We will keep all of these in confidence, and only those helping with the application process or giving member care will have access to these files.
