Spectrum
Wycliffe Bible Translators and Operation Mobilization have teamed up to develop Spectrum, a two-year introduction to missions. You’ll get a broad sweep of the missions’ experience while applying your major field of study in a hands-on environment. The program includes two distinct stages, allowing for a well-rounded, yet in-depth, experience in missions.
First, you’ll spend a year aboard and serve on an OM ship. This ship serves port cities of the world with literature resources, training, practical aid and, most importantly, a message of hope. You will serve as a member of the crew and participate in a variety of discipleship and ministry training opportunities. During this time you’ll experience a wonderful cross-section of world cultures and missions opportunities. Not only will you interact with people in various port cities of the world, but you’ll also experience diversity in the company of your own shipmates, as crews represent dozens of nationalities.
Then it’s back to dry land and a role in a Bible translation project. Use your existing skills in computing, administration or teaching. Or learn new skills in linguistics, literacy or Scripture use. Help give God’s Word to those who don’t yet have it—and see the difference it makes!
Those interested in linguistics, literacy or Scripture use will begin training with Wycliffe in the UK through the European Training Programme. After completing this program you will travel to the country of your assignment for a one-year term.
Those pursuing a non-linguistic role will head for an assignment after leaving the Doulos. As a support worker you will be able to use your skills in computer programming, accounting, management or a variety of other tasks, while helping to advance the work of Bible translation.
Whether you’re pursuing a linguistic role or a support role, your year-long field experience will give you a chance to fully immerse yourself in one culture and task—enough time to develop deep relationships and a sense of project ownership. It will also give plenty of time to experience some of the difficulties associated with fieldwork and to learn to trust the God of the impossible.
