Wycliffe Bible Translators, Inc.
Information Wycliffe Collects
Wycliffe gathers two types of information about you on the Site:
1. Information you provide through optional, voluntary submissions throughout the Site. These optional, voluntary submissions include, but are limited to, requests: (a) to receive our e-mails and/or print publications, (b) to participate in our surveys and polls, (c) to email a page to a friend, (d) to make a purchase at our online store, (e) to make a donation online, and/or (e) to make use of any of our other online services. Wycliffe collects this information from you at several different points on our Site, including, but not limited to: the “Create an Account,” “Shop,” and/or “Donate” pages on the Site.
2. Information gathered through aggregated tracking, derived mainly by tallying page views throughout our Site. This aggregated tracking information includes, without limitation: (a) information such as the server your computer is logged onto, (b) your browser type (e.g., Netscape or Internet Explorer), and (c) the pages you view/request to be viewed. This information allows us to better tailor our content to your needs.
How We Use Your Information
Wycliffe uses your personal information to: (1) process your requests and transactions, (2) offer or furnish additional products and services, (3) personalize the types of information you receive from Wycliffe, (4) assess trends in the use of our Site or purchases of products or services, (5) develop content and functionality that helps us serve our readers’ needs, and (6) improve the service and products we provide. In addition, at some point in the future, we might sell or buy businesses or assets, or Wycliffe might be acquired by, or merged with, another company. In any of those circumstances, personal information in our databases may be included among the transferred assets.
In some cases our site uses securely encrypted contribution response forms for visitors who choose to use these forms to provide information, request information, and/or make donations. We collect your willingly submitted contact information (e.g., your email address), unique identifiers (e.g., a Wycliffe donor account number), and financial information (e.g., credit card type, number, and expiration date). Contact information from these response forms is used to process donations, provide receipts, and provide other information about Wycliffe to our customers. Your contact information is also used to get in touch with you when necessary in order to resolve customer service issues or questions. You may readily opt-out of receiving future communications - see the “Choice/Opt-Out” and “Correction/Updating Personal Information" sections below. Financial information that is collected is used to bill you for donations pledged. Unique identifiers (e.g., a Wycliffe account number) may be collected from you to assist in matching current donation information with donor history in our record systems.
A cookie is a piece of data stored on the user's hard drive containing information about the user. Cookies are used to enhance the experience while visiting this Site. Usage of a cookie is in no way linked to any personally identifiable information while on our Site. For instance, by setting a cookie on our Site, you would not have to log in a password more than once, thereby saving time while on our Site. If you reject the cookie, you may still use our Site. The only drawback to this is that you will be limited in some areas of our Site. For example, you will not be able to fully participate in any of our or polls that take place. Cookies can also enable us to track and target your interests to enhance your experience on our Site.
We use IP addresses to analyze trends, administer the Site, track user's movement, and gather broad demographic information for aggregate use. IP addresses are not linked to personally identifiable information.
We will share aggregated demographic information with our partners and affiliates from time to time. This is not linked to any personal information that can identify any individual person. We use an outside shipping company to ship orders, and a credit card processing company to bill users for goods and services. These companies do not retain, share, store or use personally identifiable information for any secondary purposes. We partner with other parties to provide specific services. When you sign up for these services, we will share names, or other contact information that is necessary for the third party to provide these services. These parties are not allowed to use personally identifiable information except for the purpose of providing these services.
This Site contains links to other sites. Please be aware that Wycliffe is not responsible for the privacy practices of such other sites. We encourage our users to be aware when they leave our Site and to read the privacy statements of each and every web site that collects personally identifiable information. This privacy statement applies solely to information collected by this Site.
If you wish to subscribe to any of our print publications or emails, we ask for contact information such as name, email address and mailing address. You may remove yourself from the mailing list by managing your subscription through the “My Account” page on the Site.
Surveys & Contests
From time-to-time, our Site may request information from you via surveys or contests. Participation in these surveys or contests is completely voluntary, and you have a choice whether or not to disclose this information. Information requested may include, but is not limited to, contact information (e.g., name and shipping address) and demographic information (e.g., zip code and age). Contact information will be used to notify the winners and award prizes. Survey information will be used for purposes of monitoring or improving the use and satisfaction of this Site.
If you elect to use our referral service for informing a friend about our Site, we ask you for your friend's name and email address. We will send your friend a one-time email inviting them to visit the Site. Wycliffe stores this information for the sole purpose of sending this one-time email. The friend may contact Wycliffe to request the removal of this information from our database at firstname.lastname@example.org.
We reserve the following rights to disclose your personal information to appropriate third-parties if we are required to do so by law or we believe such action is necessary: (1) technical processing - we may need to view your message in connection with technical problems or network maintenance; (2) to protect Wycliffe’s rights, interest, and/or property; (3) to investigate reports of users sending material using a false email address or users sending harassing, threatening, subjective, or abusive messages; (4) to protect against fraud, misuse, or unauthorized use of our Site and/or ministry; (5) during emergencies (e.g., when we believe someone's physical safety is at risk); and (6) to comply with legal process (e.g., search warrant, subpoena or court order) or applicable laws.
This Site takes every precaution to protect your information. We have physical, electronic, and procedural safeguards to protect personal information we collect online, including the use of passwords to gain access to your information. To protect your privacy and security, you must keep your password confidential. However, even with such measures, no one is able to guarantee that unauthorized third parties will not be able to bypass these measures or otherwise capture information you provide over the Internet. When you submit sensitive information via the Site, your information is protected both online and off-line. Our online giving and shipping features have been designed with security as priority. We utilize standard authorization and encryption procedures. When our registration/order form asks you to enter information, that information is protected. If you have any questions about the security at our Site, you can send an email to email@example.com.
We send all new members a welcoming email to verify password and username. Established members will occasionally receive information on products, services, special deals, and a newsletter. Out of respect for the privacy of our users, we present the option to not receive these types of communications. Please see our “Choice/Opt-Out” section below.
Site and Service Updates
We may also send you site and service announcement updates. Members are not able to un-subscribe from service announcements, which contain important information about the service. We use the service to communicate with you to provide requested services, and to inform you of any issues relating to your account.
Correction/Updating Personal Information
If your personally identifiable information changes (e.g., your zip code), or if you no longer desire our service, we will endeavor to provide a way to correct, update, and/or remove your personal information provided to us. This can usually be done at the “My Account” page on this Site. If you are unable to correct, update, and/or remove your personal information at the “My Account” page on this Site, please send an e-mail to firstname.lastname@example.org.
If you no longer wish to receive our newsletter or promotional materials requested through our website you may opt-out of receiving these communications by updating your subscriptions under “My Account” page of this site. You are always notified when your information is being collected by any outside party. We do this so you can make an informed choice as to whether you should proceed with services that require an outside party, or not. Partner organizations of Wycliffe USA maintain their own mailing lists. Please contact them directly regarding your receipt of their materials.
Children Under 13
Wycliffe encourages parents and guardians to spend time online with their children and to participate in the interactive activities offered on this Site. Parents should consider using parental control tools available from online services and software manufacturers to help supervise their children's online activities. These tools can also prevent children from disclosing their name, address, and other personal information online without parental permission.
Consistent with the Federal Children's Online Privacy Protection Act of 1998 (“COPPA”), we will never knowingly request personally identifiable information (e.g., name, email, mailing address, phone number) from anyone under the age of 13 without requesting parental or legal guardian consent in compliance with COPPA. No information should be submitted to this Site by visitors under the age of 13 without the consent of a parent or legal guardian. Parents can email us to have any of their child's information removed from any further use or communications at email@example.com.
