Bible Translation > Statistics Of Bible Translation Bible Translation throughout history Until AD 1500, the Bible was available in only 30 languages. During the next 300 years, 34 more translation were written, helped greatly by the invention of movable type in the printing process. With the formation of Bible societies beginning in 1804, and through the fervor generated by William Carey's modern missions movement, God's Word was being written in 456 languages by 1900, only 100 years later. Speakers of more and more languages began to have access to the Bible in their mother tongue. ![]() During the next 50 years -- between 1900 and 1950 -- translation began in 520 more languages. During that time, in 1942, Wycliffe Bible Translators was formed, with the specific goal of seeing that God's Word was available to everyone in the language they best understand. In only 25 years -- from 1950 to 1975 -- work began in 600 more languages. God used one man, Cameron Townsend, with a vision to reach the world with God's Word to expand His kingdom.
