Column > Dear Nancy Letter 1 Of 9 | Next Letter Dear Nancy It was encouraging to receive your call and hear of your interest in missions. I'm blessed to see how God has been working in your life and drawing you closer to Him. I encourage you to keep seeking Him. Since our conversation, I've been thinking about how you could be better equipped to serve the Lord overseas. Here are some suggestions that I hope will help you. First of all, train yourself spiritually. Read, memorize, and study Scripture and be a person of prayer. You will then be enabled to stand in places where no other Christian fellowship can be found. Unless you are growing spiritually, you will not be successful. Don't leave out the nourishment that we need in spiritual warfare. Feed on the Word, often and deeply. Live a holy life before the Lord and develop a godly character that will stand. Growing in character is a continual but necessary process. Godly character is a crucial tool in bringing the Gospel to people who do not know Jesus. Allow God to mold you by surrendering to Him. Remember that Moses spent 40 years in the wilderness before God used him. You will be stretched in every possible direction by being a missionary. Be trained and ready before you go to the field. Do well in whatever you are doing and make sure you enjoy what you do. Find your best fit in ministry here and you will have something to offer on the field. Evaluate your gifts in ministry and your job skills and develop them for the Kingdom of God. Wycliffe needs help in many different areas including translation, administration, accounting, computer programming, children's education, and aviation. Study hard and learn well. Be wise with your electives while you are in school. Study subject areas that will help you on the mission field. These are just a few suggestions I have in mind. I'm sure you will have some things to think about after reading this letter. Let me know if you have any questions, or if I can help you in any way. I'll be sure to be in touch with you again soon about this. May God bless and enable you to fulfill His vision for your life. I am praying that you will be well-equipped to be a servant and to be a part of the most fulfilling task of Bible translation. In His Grace, |
