Dr. Julie Shimer retired in 2012 from the roles of Chief Executive Officer and Chief Innovation Officer of Welch Allyn, a $700 million revenue global manufacturer of medical equipment. She served as CEO of Vocera Communications, a wireless communications company headquartered in San Jose, California, from 2001–2007. Julie has also held the roles of Vice President and General Manager of 3Com Corporation’s networking products division (2000–2001) and Motorola, Inc.’s, paging division (1993–1999). She is a former Vice President of the semi-conductor products section of Motorola and has held positions at noteworthy businesses such as AT&T Bell Laboratories and Bethlehem Steel Company.
Dr. Shimer serves on the board of directors of Avanos (2014–present), Apollo Endosurgery (2018–present) and Masimo (2019–present). She also serves on the non-profit board the Engineering Information Foundation (1999–present). Her previous board experience includes Mission Aviation Fellowship (2001–2010), Welch Allyn (2002–2012) and others. She is a senior member of the Society of Women Engineers and a member of both the Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers and the National Association of Corporate Directors.
She has been married to her husband, Jary, since 1973. They live in New Mexico where they are enjoying retirement.
