Dr. Sam Barkat has served as Chief Organizational Development Officer for Wycliffe USA since 2013. In this role, Sam is responsible for the overall leadership of organizational development initiatives. He works closely with the Chief Operations Officer to set organizational direction, guide organizational strategies and approve administrative policy as part of the executive leadership team. He also oversees diversity awareness for the organization.
Sam worked as Executive Director of the Institute for Collaborative Engagement prior to joining Wycliffe. Before that, he was Provost and Executive Vice President of Nyack College in New York. He also served as the Vice President of InterVarsity Christian Fellowship/USA. He is on the board of directors for the Overseas Council, serving as Chairman of the International Group, which is involved in international theological education.
Sam received a Bachelor of Arts degree from Murray College, Pakistan; a Bachelor of Arts degree from Tennessee Temple College; and both masters and doctoral degrees in psychology from the University of Tennessee. He did theological training at Temple Baptist Theological Seminary and postdoctoral studies in psychology at New School for Social Research, New York University, and Columbia University.
Sam and his wife, Sheila, have two adult sons — John (married to Laura) and Jim (married to Saima). They also have five grandchildren.
