Literacy is an important component of Bible translation because it helps make God's Word accessible to all people in a language that speaks to their heart. But literacy is key to not only accessing God’s Word; it also offers communities and individuals many other advantages. When adults do not have the opportunity to learn how to read, it impacts their ability to teach their children, often leading to a continuous cycle of illness, poverty and illiteracy. But literacy opens doors and new opportunities — spiritually, emotionally, financially, politically and economically. And when those doors are opened, lives are impacted for generations to come.
