On October 20, we had the opportunity to celebrate with 29 different languages — representing more than 2.2 million people — who now have access to Scripture! Praise God for his faithfulness!
Scripture Celebration is a wonderful chance to hear stories and watch videos from different language communities all around the world who now have God’s Word in the languages they understand best. We watched a video from the Bunong New Testament dedication, and heard incredible stories of tragedy and triumph from the Congo. Those in attendance were led in worship, and were able to see and touch copies of the Scriptures being celebrated. The morning concluded with a video of Billy Graham preaching in 1981 about the significance of Bible translation and calling us to obey the two commands Jesus gave throughout his time on earth: come and go.
Our theme verse for the celebration was one that Billy Graham referenced in his sermon: “And the Good News about the Kingdom will be preached throughout the whole world, so that all nations will hear it” (Matthew 24:14, NLT). We had the chance to truly rejoice with people all around the world whose lives have been changed because of access to Scripture — people from the largest language group represented (310,000 speakers) during the celebration to the smallest (1,180 speakers). It was a beautiful reminder that every language is significant to God!
