As people encounter translated Scripture in their language, God is eternally changing their lives. The story of Vivaan in South Asia is one example of how monthly givers are making an impact.

Vivaan was born Deaf. For this reason, he was mistreated by his parents, other family members and neighbors. They didn’t even invite him to any of their celebrations. Ostracized by his community, Vivaan struggled with loneliness as he entered his early 20s.

But then one day, Vivaan met a team of Bible translators and learned some exciting news: They were working to produce the first Scripture in his sign language! What’s more, the team was looking for other Deaf people to participate in the translation project.

Vivaan decided to get involved and went all in on the work. During community checking sessions, he reviewed the team’s drafted Scripture videos and provided feedback, helping ensure a clear and natural translation. As he watched various biblical passages, he was moved and began to delve deeper into the Christian faith.

“[Scripture] made me realize how Jesus extended His love and … sacrificed His life for humanity,” he expressed recently. “I started realizing the extent of God’s extravagant love showered upon me.”

Encountering Jesus’ compassion and forgiveness brought healing to Vivaan’s heart and soul. It also gave his life meaning and purpose. Besides participating in the translation effort, he is now sharing the Good News in his community, reaching out to Deaf people who are lonely or mistreated.

“For the first time in my life,” he signed, “I am very happy.”
