You can help more people find hope in God’s Word!
After years of devastating loss, Selmira was searching for something to fill the emptiness in her spirit.
She had married as a young teen. By age 51, she had lost 11 children and suffered four miscarriages.
In the middle of unimaginable grief — when hope felt out of reach — God came to Selmira in a dream that changed her life. In that moment, she felt something stir deep within her as she heard His command: “You have to go take care of your children and serve God’s Son.”
Soon after, Selmira began searching for a Bible she could understand. She longed to hear more from God.
When she read a portion of translated Scripture, her heart was transformed. She devoted her life to translating God’s Word so people in her community could experience the same hope that had changed her life.
That is the power of God’s Word! For as we are reminded, “ … He has sent me to comfort the brokenhearted …” (Isaiah 61:1b, NLT).
Selmira found lasting comfort in Jesus. Then she began sharing it with others.
God’s Word began to spread through Selmira’s community.
Selmira spent many Sundays sharing translated Bible stories with anyone who would listen, especially young children.
“Kids really like the story of the blind man at the gates of Jericho, and [also the story of] Zacchaeus,” she said. “Sometimes they want to repeatedly hear the stories.”
Her neighbors came to listen to her read. Even the village shaman and local religious leaders came to listen as well.
“It’s important to have Scripture written because then it lives on,” Selmira said. “It’s important for them to learn because it teaches them how to make themselves strong with Jesus …”
Selmira has not forgotten about her 11 children who have passed away, but she found comfort and hope because of Jesus’ love — and through the blessing of 11 grandchildren. “Christ has died for me,” she said. “I want to stay with Him.”
Right now, your gift can go twice as far!
A group of generous donors has provided a special 2X matching opportunity to help more people receive translated Scripture.
Through September 30, every gift will be matched, dollar for dollar, up to $50,000! That means your gift today can have twice the impact in supporting Bible translation in Peru and beyond.
Selmira’s story shows why this matters.
When people have access to God’s Word in a language and format they clearly understand, they can experience His truth for themselves, grow stronger in their faith and share Scripture with their children and community.
Your partnership helps equip local believers, churches and translation teams to continue that work.
Double your impact for people still waiting for Scripture.
When you give today, your matched gift helps:
-
Translate Scripture so people can encounter Jesus through God's Word.
-
Equip local churches to use and share translated Scripture.
-
Provide Scripture in print, audio and video formats so it can be understood and lived out.
Please prayerfully consider giving today so more people, like Selmira, can experience the hope and comfort of God’s Word.
Together with our global partners, Wycliffe desires to see a day when every man, woman and child has all Scripture in a language and format they clearly understand, so they can encounter Jesus and be transformed.
YES! I will help more people receive Scripture in their language.
