Gordon & Sara Williams | Wycliffe Bible Translators
The Wycliffe Ministry of

Gordon & Sara Williams

Gordon & Sara Williams have been members of Wycliffe since 1983. They served with SIL International, in Senegal, West Africa from 1986-2005 where Gordon was also Branch Director from 1993-2000. During their service in Senegal, they worked in the Soninke Project and in training and partnering with nationals. They returned to the US in 2005 for their children's education and needs of parents. In 2006, Gordon started an assignment with Seed Company, a Wycliffe affiliate organization, and eventually became Vice President of Field Operations - Asia/Pacific/Eurasia. Sara taught English as a Second Language (ESL) at the University of Wisconsin-Stevens Point during this time. Most recently, both Gordon and Sara have returned to work with SIL with Gordon as a "Global Diaspora Strategist" and Sara as an "ESL Specialist".

Gordon’s role deals with “Access to Scripture” -- looking at the global diaspora (the scattering and migrating of peoples and languages) to see where translation projects should best be carried out and with which strategic partners. His work will also help determine what types of products and in what languages will facilitate the most effective engagement with available Scripture that leads to life transformation. We call this a multilingual, multi-modal approach to Bible translation and language development.

Sara’s role relates to “Capacity Development” – helping members of diaspora communities with their inevitable needs for acquiring a second language, often English. Sara’s role will also serve Wycliffe members from non-English speaking countries with English tutoring and language learning resources.

Wycliffe Ministry Budget

Wycliffe establishes a Ministry Budget for its missionaries to reflect recurring expenses related to family factors and their geographic location of service. Giving to Wycliffe directly impacts missionaries’ ability to begin and remain in their assignment.

This budget covers ministry-related expenses, insurance and retirement, social security and taxes, and Wycliffe administrative costs. The remainder is what the missionaries receive as “take-home pay” for their daily living expenses.
