In 1986 the Lovells began working with speakers of the Minaveha language whose villages are distributed along the coast of the Kukuya Peninsula of Fergusson Island, the largest island of the D'Entecasteaux group of islands in Milne Bay Province, Papua New Guinea. The most recent census recorded about 3,000 Minaveha speakers. The Minaveha New Testament was dedicated in 2009; since then the Lovells have been working primarily with members of a second generation of speakers to complete the Old Testament and a revision of the New Testament. Content checking of all the books of this project was completed at the end of 2018; all of 2019 was spent revising the Minaveha‒English lexicon. Early in 2020 the Lovells came to the US for a short trip but were prevented from returning to PNG by COVID restrictions. With retirement approaching, they've been looking for property in Arizona but have continued preparing the Minaveha Bible for typesetting while on remote assignment. It's possible that typesetting may begin in the fall of 2023, with a possible dedication in either 2024 or 2025.
