Melissa is delighted to be part of bringing the Bible to the Bibleless. She felt a call to live and work outside the USA in her final year of college and didn’t know what that would look like but hoped to go to Asia. After college, she completed a seminary degree and taught English in Peru, Nepal, and China, learning some of the national language of each country as she went. Through those experiences she discovered a love of linguistics and a growing desire to be a part of Bible translation and to see people’s lives transformed through the Bible.

Melissa began linguistics studies in 2017 and joined Wycliffe Bible Translators a year later. She moved to West Asia in 2019, and has been involved in literacy and language development work with community members of a minority language group for the past five years. They have developed a writing system and beginning reading materials. The next steps to seeing these community members have access to Scriptures is continuing language development work and beginning a mother-tongue preschool program. These beginning steps of literacy will allow the language community to engage with the written Word of God.
