David & Beth are passionate about reaching the Sunrise* people of Southeast Asia with the hope and freedom of the gospel. The Sunrise people, who number several million, practice a major world religion and are "unreached" by the gospel. Since 2012, David and Beth have been supporting Bible translation in Sunrise. The translation team produces resources to share with other ministry workers who evangelize and disciple the Sunrise people.

 

Much has been done, and much work remains to do. OneStory, a short set of Bible stories in the Sunrise language, tells of God’s redeeming love for the Sunrise people. This set has been effective in communicating the gospel in a contextual way. As of fall 2025, adaptation of this set is underway in two other dialects of Sunrise. Written translation is also well underway, with the New Testament about 45% complete. Luke, John, and Acts and other materials are all distribution in various forms of books, audio, website, and an Android application for the Sunrise Bible.

 

The Sunrise team also prioritizes working with ministry partners to ensure that the resources produced are effective for engaging Sunrise audiences with the truth. This priority has led to some creative endeavors. Ministry partners have found that the Sunrise audience responds better to audio content, so the team records everything they produce. They have also commissioned artwork for use with scripture and are collaborating to use Sunrise language social media posts to find people who are open to the truth.

 

God has called the church and the Knott’s to this ministry. Perhaps He is also calling you to take an active part in their Wycliffe ministry in Sunrise through prayer and financial gifts. It would be a tremendous blessing and encouragement to them and rewarding for you as well!
