Indonesia is the world’s fourth most populous nation, stretching across the Indian and Pacific oceans. The country is made up of more than 17,000 unique, complex and diverse islands and is home to more than 700 distinct people groups, each with their own languages and cultures. The church in Indonesia is growing, but many people haven’t yet heard about the hope found in the Bible.
With approximately 500 people, the Auye community is one of the smallest language communities in Indonesia. They reside in the Papua province on the easternmost side of the country, and many Auye people work in agriculture.
Only portions of Scripture are currently available in Auye, but praise God that the translation team is approaching the completion of the New Testament translation project! They recently finished consultant checks and have started an oral read-through of the books to make sure the verses sound clear and natural.
If final checks and typesetting continue on schedule, the translation team hopes to finalize and publish the Auye New Testament in 2020. After the New Testament is dedicated, they plan to continue translating Scripture from the Old Testament.
Praise God that the Auye community will soon have the New Testament in their language! God continues to use your prayers to impact people for his glory.
- Pray that the final stages of the Auye New Testament translation project will continue on schedule. As a translation nears completion, spiritual attacks often happen and troubles arise. Ask God to give the translation team perseverance as they complete this important task.
- Ask God to prepare the hearts of the Auye to receive, hear and understand his Word.
- Praise God for the continued work of Bible translation in Asia.
Make a Prayer Connection: Ask God to provide full funding for the Central Auyu New Testament project. Your prayers and gifts will help Central Auyu people access more of God’s Word in their own language!
