The Tapshin of Nigeria

Praying for the Bibleless

  • January 4, 2016

"So we have not stopped praying for you since we first heard about you. We ask God to give you complete knowledge of his will and to give you spiritual wisdom and understanding" (Colossians 1:9, NLT).

Located in northern Nigeria, the Tapshin people, population 8,500, speak a language called “Sur.” This minority people group is known to be very hospitable. They also need the Scriptures in their own language. While many claim to be Christian, most of the Tapshin people continue to practice traditional religious beliefs.

  • Pray that the Tapshin would hunger for God’s Word in Sur, their heart language.

  • Pray for discernment to see how God’s ways are different from tradition.

  • Pray that a Bible translation project will soon begin for the Tapshin community.
