Okphela | Wycliffe Bible Translators

Making the entirety of God’s Word available in their language

Project Description

About 85% of the Okphela population profess to follow Jesus. In recent years, local Christians gained access to the Okphela New Testament, which they now use in church services and Bible studies.

Traditional religion, however, holds a firm grip on the community. As a result, Okphela church leaders are eager for the rest of the Bible to be completed so they can more effectively combat the influence of false teachings.

Having the entirety of God’s Word in their language will also help to deepen the faith of believers and better equip them to reach out to others.

In this four-year project, a local team plans to check 20 previously translated Old Testament books with a consultant, and translate 19 remaining Old Testament books. Then they will typeset and publish the entire Bible.

They’ll also produce three “Wonderful Plan of God” books in print and audio formats. These resources will provide a way for Christians to engage with Old Testament excerpts prior to the completion of the full Bible.

Your prayers and gifts will help the Okphela people experience the transforming power of God’s Word in a language they clearly understand.

Funds in excess of the current need will be applied to a similar project or to future needs within the same project.
