Salvadoran Sign Language

Creating Scripture portions in their sign language

Salvadoran Sign Language

Project Description

“We didn’t know any of these things before!” said members of the Deaf community after viewing Scripture videos in their sign language.

We’re working with local partners to translate Scripture portions for the Deaf community in El Salvador. In order to grow in their faith and knowledge of God, they need Scripture that communicates to their hearts.

Since hand gestures, body language and facial expressions matter greatly in sign languages, the team uses video to draft God’s Word. After revisions, they record a final video.

As people gain access to Scripture in Salvadoran Sign Language, they realize what Christ has done for them, and they respond to the message. Their faith grows as they understand God’s Word clearly.

“When faced with the pressures of daily life, … this faith strengthens them to continue trusting in God’s promises,” a project adviser said. “Many of them share their faith with friends or people in their community.”

Your prayers and gifts will help make God’s Word available to the Deaf community in El Salvador!

Funds in excess of the current need will be applied to a similar project or to future needs within the same project.
