Mike & Kathy Smith | Wycliffe Bible Translators
The Wycliffe Ministry of

Mike & Kathy Smith

For many years Mike served in Land Transportation at JAARS, teaching and training, and repair of 4WD and missionary vehicles. Due to health reasons he had to transfer to a less strenuous position and transferred to JAARS housing maintenance.

JAARS housing is used by missionaries on furlough, those who come to the center for training or events, and volunteers who come to serve at JAARS. Mike became the full-time maintenance technician over 81 housing units, ranging from 1-bedroom efficiency apartments to 3-bedroom apartments, as well as some houses.

The maintenance needs are many and JAARS does not hire people to do these tasks. All of the maintenance is done by our own missionaries and volunteers.

Due to several health issues, he served most of this year in the role of housing maintenance. JAARS provides housing for many missionaries; those on furlough and those here for training conferences, as well as new missionaries here for training.

After spending this year attending to Mike’s health issues, we are happy to report that he is improved enough to return to the Land Transportation Department in the role of a consultant, as well as servicing our many JAARS Center Vehicles. Many are happy to see him back.

God prepared Kathy with musical and organizational skills to step into the role as Music Coordinator of JAARS Tuesday Center Meeting (JTCM). JTCM is a strategic weekly 1-hour gathering which moves the task of Bible translation forward by informing, inspiring, challenging and providing practical tools which glorifies God, exalts Christ and energizes the ‘family/body’ here at the JAARS Center. Each week we have multiple presenters and musicians who take part in JTCM, which includes many volunteers and visitors. As well, she helps in other events throughout the year when worship music is needed.

Wycliffe Ministry Budget

Wycliffe establishes a Ministry Budget for its missionaries to reflect recurring expenses related to family factors and their geographic location of service. Giving to Wycliffe directly impacts missionaries’ ability to begin and remain in their assignment.

This budget covers ministry-related expenses, insurance and retirement, social security and taxes, and Wycliffe administrative costs. The remainder is what the missionaries receive as “take-home pay” for their daily living expenses.
