“Ten percent of the Christian world [English-speaking] has ninety percent of the Christian resources, and the other ninety percent have ten percent.” Karl heard that statement in 1986 when he became a Christian, and it stayed with him—who would leave the safety of home and go search for the lost sheep?

 

In 1997, God used that conviction to call him to Wycliffe. Though trained as a Bible translator, Karl quickly saw that people didn’t even know where translation was most needed. Where were the lost sheep? He pivoted to language assessment—essentially becoming a full-time “sheep-seeker”—and has been doing that since 2001.

 

Along the way, God brought Susi into his life. From Southeast Asia, she joined Karl after a career in the corporate world, and shares Karl’s heart for prayer, Scripture, and seeing God’s kingdom—truth, beauty, justice, and reconciliation through Jesus the King—take root in a fractured world. Together they enjoy building relationships, mentoring younger colleagues, and living life with joy, adventure, and plenty of spicy food.

 

Karl and Susi sense God leading them to move to Southeast Asia in 2026. This next phase of ministry includes training a new generation to continue seeking the lost, unreached, and Bibleless.
