The Wycliffe Ministry of

Martin & Alice Reed

Martin and Alice serve as Language Program Facilitators among the First Nations of northern Canada. Originally from the United States, the Reeds met while taking classes at the Graduate Institute of Applied Linguistics in Dallas, Texas.

In March 2017, after one year of marriage, they began their first assignment as part of Wycliffe’s Western Cree Initiative. The Initiative equips Cree church leaders to build capacity for their people to do Bible translation and promote the use of God’s Word in their heart language, and has the potential to impact more than 100,000 people in the Plains Cree, Northern Alberta Cree, Woods Cree, Swampy Cree, and Oji-Cree language communities.

The Reeds are currently completing an 8-month internship with the Naskapi translation team in Kawawachikamach, Quebec, before beginning a new Bible translation project in one of the Cree communities. Alice has an M.A. in Biblical Exegesis and Linguistics from Dallas Theological Seminary, and is assisting with the publication of Exodus in Naskapi. Martin is learning best practices in bilingual education from the local school. They are also learning to read, write, and speak Naskapi.

In their free time, the Reeds enjoy trying traditional activities like camping, showshoeing, canoeing, fishing, and beading. They also seek opportunities to disciple believers in how God’s Word of life and hope can heal generations of hurt from addiction, suicide, abuse, depression, and loss of language and culture.

Wycliffe Ministry Budget

Wycliffe establishes a Ministry Budget for its missionaries to reflect recurring expenses related to family factors and their geographic location of service. Giving to this account directly impacts missionaries’ ability to begin and remain in their assignment.

This budget covers ministry-related expenses, insurance and retirement, social security and taxes, and Wycliffe administrative costs. The remainder is what the missionaries receive as “take-home pay” for their daily living expenses.
