Martin & Alice Reed | Wycliffe Bible Translators
The Wycliffe Ministry of

Martin & Alice Reed

Martin and Alice serve in subarctic Canada as language program facilitators, specializing in Bible translation and literacy & bilingual education. As part of Wycliffe’s Western Cree Initiative, they aim to equip First Nations church leaders to build capacity for their people to do Bible translation and promote the use of God’s Word in their heart language.

The Reeds live in Thompson, Man., with their toddler, Grace, and baby, Kai. There, they are learning the Western Swampy Cree language and connecting with community leaders to explore possible Bible translation and language development initiatives. Most recently, they helped publish a full-color children’s book and read-aloud eBook of the story of Joseph (Genesis 37-50) in Western Swampy Cree and Ojibwe with indigenous illustrations.

Prior to that, the Reeds served for eight months in Kawawachikamach, Que., learning from Naskapi mother-tongue translators and assisting with the production of several publications, including Exodus, Psalms, and God’s Promises in the Bible—a bilingual collection of Scripture arranged by topics relevant to everyday life.

Martin and Alice met while pursuing graduate studies in Dallas, Texas, and celebrated their first anniversary in Kawawachikamach. Alice has an M.A. in biblical exegesis and linguistics from Dallas Theological Seminary. Martin is pursuing a M.A. in language and culture studies, with a concentration in literacy from the Graduate Institute of Applied Linguistics.

In their free time, the Reeds enjoy trying traditional activities like camping, showshoeing, sewing, and beading. They also seek opportunities to disciple believers in how God’s Word of life and hope can heal generations of hurt from addiction, suicide, abuse, depression, and loss of language and culture.

Wycliffe Ministry Budget

Wycliffe establishes a Ministry Budget for its missionaries to reflect recurring expenses related to family factors and their geographic location of service. Giving to Wycliffe directly impacts missionaries’ ability to begin and remain in their assignment.

This monthly budget covers ministry-related expenses, insurance and retirement, social security and taxes, and Wycliffe administrative costs. The remainder is what the missionaries receive as “take-home pay” for their daily living expenses.
