THE WYCLIFFE MINISTRY OF

Ervin & Coleen Starwalt

Ervin & Coleen Starwalt

Ervin and Coleen have spent a combined 48 years engaged in the Bible translation movement as teachers, trainers, and mentors.

First as a linguist-translator in the 1990s, then as a linguistics consultant, trainer and mentor since the early 2000s, Coleen has developed a passion for passing on to the next generation of translators and language development workers the knowledge, skills and attitudes highly valued by Wycliffe and our ministry partners. Coleen is shared staff with Wycliffe’s ministry partner, SIL in Nigeria. In addition to mentoring Nigerian and expatriate colleagues in their technical and personal growth goals, Coleen has been coordinating the overall efforts of SIL Nigeria to train, mentor, and coach all staff, in whatever domain they specialize in, so they can grow in their ability to serve language communities well.

Ervin is a Greek New Testament expert, teaching exegesis and discourse studies. He has taught in translation training schools and supported SIL’s efforts to provide quality translation resources. He is currently focusing on applying sound exegetical principles for teaching whole books of the New Testament in adult Sunday education classes.

Wycliffe Ministry Budget

Wycliffe establishes a Ministry Budget for its members to reflect recurring expenses related to family factors and their geographic location of service. Giving to Wycliffe directly impacts members' ability to begin and remain in their assignment.

This monthly budget covers ministry-related expenses, insurance and retirement, social security and taxes, and Wycliffe administrative costs. The remainder is what the members receive as "take-home pay" for their daily living expenses.
