Highlands Audio Equipment Project, Papua New Guinea
Oftentimes, missionaries spend many years and give countless hours and efforts into translating the Bible into the hundreds of languages (850) in Papua New Guinea (PNG), however, many people are still unable to read the written word that has been translated. While efforts are underway to improve literacy throughout the nation, the Highlands Audio Project (HAP) has had an immediate impact on the many language communities of the Highlands. The HAP records, edits, and makes audio Scriptures available in the Highlands languages that have been translated. Many of those languages do not have active funded projects, and the PNG people are now able to listen to God's Word in their mother-tongue (the language that speaks most clearly to them). Many lives are being changed and communities transformed because of these audio players literally speaking God's Word to the people.
The donated funds will primarily be used to purchase the audio players (which allows us to greatly subsidize the sale price of the respective solar-powered audio scripture players). The players are solar powered and very little maintenance is needed as the audio players can last many years as we have seen. A surprisingly large percentage of the players are purchased by older, illiterate ladies (and men) whose family members often gather together to listen with them. However, the younger generation (who cannot afford mobile phones), have also been excited to have these audio players, and we are seeing those lives changed as well. The HAP must cover expenses for their full time PNG national employee who has been trained as a recording technician, as well as costs for subsidizing PNG nationals to travel to and record at the studio. Many hours of recording the translated scriptures and editing are required to produce a quality audio recording that will be accepted and used by the respective language community.
Thank you! Your prayers and gifts will help bring these solar powered audio Bibles to hundreds of people so they can hear God's Word in their own language that touches their hearts!
