The Domung Language and Translation Project aims to provide the Domung people with access to God’s Word in their own language so that they may experience its life-transforming impact. There are about 4,000 Domung people living in 11 different villages nestled within the rugged and remote Finnesterre mountain range of Madang Province, Papua New Guinea (PNG). They are subsistence farmers who grow their own food in gardens carved out of the rainforest – often on the slopes of very steep mountains. The Evangelical Lutheran Church of PNG has a small, local congregation in each of these Domung villages.

The Domung Translation project was first initiated by the Domung people in 2009, but after 10 years of struggling to translate God’s Word into the complex Domung language, the Domung people and their Papua New Guinean translation advisor requested additional help. Jonathan and Jenny Moe joined the Domung Translation Project in 2019 and are eager to help the Domung people obtain access to God’s Word in their own language. Portions of Genesis and the Gospel of Mark have been drafted, but much work remains to be done before even these small portions of Scripture may be consultant-checked and approved for publication.

Thank you for prayerfully considering partnering with Wycliffe and the Domung people through your financial and prayer partnership with the Domung Language and Translation Project!
