FIA TRANSLATION PROJECT
All around the world, churches are taking ownership of translating the Bible into their own languages for their own people. We call this church-based Bible translation.
In 2021, two communities realized that their translators needed resources. These translators were experts in their own languages and cultures, but came from oral communities and did not have high levels of literacy. To help them access information about the Scripture they were translating, a new resource called “Familiarization, Internalization, Articulation” (FIA) was created.
Since then, FIA continues to help churches all over the world translate God's Word into a language that touches their hearts! The goal remains the same: to make Scripture accessible to every heart, everywhere.
FIA resources are created specifically to serve oral communities — people who prefer to learn through narrative, experience and community. The desire is to keep these resources available to all who need them. FIA is available in both audio and text formats and is open-source, allowing translation teams to access and use the tools in whatever way best fits their translation process.
Today more than 500 translation teams use FIA, but most of the material is available only in English.
The FIA translation project aims to translate and record FIA resources into 17 widely spoken languages so that a much larger community of translators worldwide can use and benefit from them. You can help make that possible through a gift today!
