Mubami Language Program
Since as early as the 1970’s, the Mubami people of Papua New Guinea have been requesting help with Bible translation. In 2018, Wycliffe Bible Translators Jason and Jennifer Hill discerned God’s calling to serve alongside the Mubami people. With much of the preparatory work now completed, the Mubami people are ready to begin the training and equipping process for the work of Bible translation.
The mission for the Mubami Language Program is to see the Mubami people transformed by Scripture and making disciples in their community and beyond. Translating God’s Word into the Mubami language first requires a significant amount of language development and literacy work. This includes things such as alphabet development, dictionaries, and creation of literacy materials. These tools will enable the Mubami people to develop the written form of their language so that they can produce a quality Bible translation in their language. In addition to language development and literacy work, this program will also provide select Mubami people with the necessary training in areas such as translation, biblical languages, computer skills, and other areas pertinent to Bible translation, so that they can translate God’s Word into their language. This fund also provides support for the logistical needs of the program, such as computers, communications devices, and transportation of language workers in the course of their translation duties.
Your gift to Wycliffe Bible Translators will enable the Mubami Language Program to provide the Mubami people with the skills, equipment, and training needed to bring God’s Word into the language that speaks best to the Mubami people and lead to a harvest of souls for God’s Kingdom.
