Fur of Sudan and Border Kuna 2

Giving Hope Collective

The Giving Hope Collective has partnered with Wycliffe Bible Translators on two projects — the Fur and the Border Kuna translations.

Fur Translation

It was only 20 years ago that Fur people had zero followers of Christ. They only knew the area’s majority religion.

But when their country plunged into devastating civil unrest, they found themselves attacked by their neighbors, people who they thought were their religious brothers and sisters. Forced to flee to surrounding nations, many of the hurting refugees found shelter in the homes of Christians.

It was during this time that Fur speakers began learning about the gospel. Some even responded to Christ’s offer of eternal life. Eventually, these new believers formed a church and found a common purpose — to produce God’s Word in their own language.

Since then, Fur Christians have led the charge for Scripture translation. In 2025, they completed the New Testament. They’ve been using it to share the gospel in refugee camps, bringing more people to Jesus.

Today, there are nearly 40,000 Christians among the Fur! The local church is keen to help its community find hope in the Lord, and they believe having the full Bible is a key step.

Will you partner with them as they start work on the Old Testament?

THE PLAN

You can help the growing Fur church root itself in God’s Word!

In this project, the team will:

  • Translate and publish five Old Testament books, as well as portions of Exodus and Psalms.
  • Make progress on four other Old Testament books.
  • Host trauma healing workshops.

Your prayers and gifts will help the Fur people discover God’s comfort through Scripture in their own language.

Border Kuna Translation

“Suddenly the LORD called out, ‘Samuel!’” (1 Samuel 3:4a, NLT).

When Samuel understood God’s call, he responded with obedience. Ancemo, a Border Kuna speaker, was also gaining an understanding that would shape his faith.

He considered himself a Christian, but God’s Word in his own language challenged him in ways he hadn’t expected.

While participating in a review of the translation of Exodus, a familiar passage stood out to him. He had never really comprehended it before, but the words in Border Kuna gave him fresh insight. He felt something he didn’t expect: conviction.

Ancemo realized he wasn’t living according to God’s commands. This new awareness weighed on him. It didn’t lead him to despair, however, but to renewed dedication.

“Now I understand,” said Ancemo, “and I will follow the Lord.”

Ancemo’s response shows what happens when God’s Word truly reaches people: It changes lives. The local translation team will keep that truth in mind as they work to make 1 Samuel and five other Scripture books available to their people.

Will you partner with them?

THE PLAN

You can help the Border Kuna translation team in their mission to meet the spiritual needs of their community.

In this project, they will:

  • Translate and publish Leviticus, 1 Samuel, Esther, Proverbs, Romans and 1 Timothy.
  • Develop and publish Bible study materials.
  • Facilitate community engagement by organizing Scripture discussion groups.

Your prayers and gifts will help the Border Kuna experience God’s Word in a language and format they clearly understand.
