Literacy Specialist

What if you could partner with communities and organizations to carry out literacy projects in Africa?

At Wycliffe Bible Translators we believe that when people encounter Jesus through Scripture, lives are transformed forever. Lack of Scripture is a massive barrier to evangelism, discipleship, church planting and other forms of ministry, and today there are 801 languages that still need Bible translation work started for the first time.

As a supported* literacy specialist your contributions will open doors for education and Scripture engagement. Are you ready to join God where He’s at work?

You’ll make an impact when you...

  • Teach, motivate and guide people to read and write.

  • Provide materials and methods for people to teach and pass skills on to others.

  • Develop, construct and use literacy teaching tools.

  • Recognize, encourage and nurture leadership from within the language community.

  • Serve language communities as they build capacity for sustainable language development.

This job might be for you if…

  • You have a working knowledge of language & culture acquisition and literacy education.

  • You teach in a patient, persistent and loving manner.

  • You work well as a member of a partnership or team.

  • You thrive with minimal supervision, but are open to input from consultants and administration.

  • You have experience planning projects.

  • You're ready to plan, coordinate or participate in literacy workshops or training courses.

  • You’re open to working in a specialized area.

  • You have a bachelor’s degree.

  • You demonstrate the desire and ability to support corporate biblical and religious goals and participate in regular work-related spiritual activities without reservation (Spiritual Bona Fide Occupational Qualification).

You’ll thrive here if…

  • You ground yourself in Jesus.

  • You embrace collaboration.

  • You encounter change with resilience and flexibility.

It’s a bonus if…

  • You have previous multicultural experience.
